What to do

  1. Before the game, hide the meaning cards around the room or house. Keep the saying cards in a pile. Clear away anything people could trip over.
  2. Put players into small teams. Agree the rules: walk, do not run, and leave things tidy as you search.
  3. Give a team a saying card. Play its audio from the saying page and read the meaning aloud once.
  4. The team walks off together to find that meaning card.
  5. When they bring it back, check it against the list of sayings on this page. If it is right, they keep the pair and get the next saying card.
  6. Play until every meaning card is found. Count the pairs at the end, and cheer for every team.

Questions to talk about

  • Which meaning was hardest to remember on the way?
  • Can you tell us a time when one of these meanings fitted something in your life?

You will need

  • The printed card sheet, cut out
  • Scissors
  • A device to play the audio on each saying page

Make it fit

Simpler: Hide the cards in easy places and let teams take the saying card with them as they search.

More of a stretch: Do not read the meaning aloud. The team hears only the saying and has to remember which meaning it goes with.
