Four corners
Four meanings, one in each corner. Hear a short situation and walk to the meaning that fits.
- 10 minutes
- Small group, Whole class
- Ages 5–7, Ages 7–9
- Classroom
- Printable: corner signs
What to do
- Clear the space. Put one meaning sheet in each corner of the room: there is no place like home, thank you, there is strength in unity, good night.
- Read each corner’s meaning together. Play its saying from the saying page if you can.
- Remind everyone: walk, do not run, and mind the people around you.
- Read a short situation. For example: “Granny gives you a present. What do you say?” or “It is bedtime and you are going up the stairs.”
- Everyone walks to the corner that fits. Ask one or two children to say why they chose it.
- Play six to eight rounds. Some situations can fit two corners, and that is fine if the child has a reason.
Questions to talk about
- Which corner did you go to most?
- Can you think of a new situation for one of the corners?
You will need
- The four printed corner signs
- A clear space
- A device to play the audio on each saying page (optional)
Make it fit
Simpler: Use two corners only, and point to the pictures as you read each situation.
More of a stretch: Play a saying’s audio instead of reading a situation, and children walk to its meaning.
