Sock puppet make-up show

Make two simple puppets and put on a short show where two friends fall out and then make up.

Ní buan cogadh na gcaradA quarrel between friends does not last.Meaning, pronunciation and source →

What to do

  1. Read the meaning together: a quarrel between friends does not last.
  2. Make two puppets. Give each one a face and a name.
  3. Plan a tiny story: what do the two friends fall out about? A toy, a game, whose turn it is?
  4. Put on the show. One child can work both puppets, or two children can take one each.
  5. Make sure the friends make up at the end. How do they do it?

Questions to talk about

  • How did the puppets feel when they fell out?
  • What did one of them say or do to make it better?
  • Have you ever made up with a friend after a falling out?

You will need

  • Two old socks or paper bags
  • Felt tips, wool or paper scraps
  • Glue or sticky tape
  • A table or sofa to hide behind

Make it fit

Simpler: The adult works one puppet and the child works the other.

More of a stretch: Do the show twice: once where the friends make up quickly, once where it takes longer. What is different?

Printables

The instructions card is for the adult running the activity; the worksheet is for the children. Prints on A4 or US Letter at 100% / actual size; colour is optional.
