What to do

  1. Read the meaning together: there is no place like home.
  2. Go and look at your own front door and windows together. What colour is the door? Is there a plant, a step, a window box? Leave out the house number.
  3. Colour the house on the sheet to look like your home.
  4. Add the small things that make it yours: a pet in the window, a bike, a light on.
  5. Talk about your favourite place inside your home and why.

Questions to talk about

  • What makes your home feel like home?
  • What is the best thing about coming home?

You will need

  • The printed colouring page
  • Crayons, coloured pencils or felt-tip pens

Make it fit

Simpler: Colour the door and windows only, and talk about the rest.

More of a stretch: Draw the people who live there looking out of the windows.
